Folklore Festival

We went to the 42nd annual Folklore Festival in Aviano this morning. It was a really neat experience, I combined some of each performance into a little movie for you guys; enjoy!!

Treviso

We took the train to Treviso today. It was smaller than most of the other cities we have seen, but there were still a lot of gorgeous sights and we had an awesome time!!!

Trieste

We took a family trip yesterday to Trieste. It was really HOT, but so worth it, the city was gorgeous!!! It sits right on the water and we saw all kinds of sailboats and even a big yacht docked, it was awesome!! Adam and I tried Cafe Zero for the first time, which is a frozen flavored espresso drink, and the boys had ice cream sandwiches (Sorry I did not get a picture of that mess, I was too busy keeping it out of Daddy's lap or the floor, haha!!) One interesting thing about Trieste is there are a few statues that seem out of place, like a man standing in the middle of the bridge sidewalk, and a man standing on two different side streets as well. They seem out of place, but that makes it all the more interesting like they are "part" of the crowd. There were a few different sites of Roman remains, which we were anxious to see, and to get to the arch we had to walk up a really steep hill with a narrow sidewalk, with the Italians whizzing by, but it was a great sight!!! We had a GREAT time!!

Udine

We took the train to Udine today. It was gorgeous and a treat for us as well because we hadn't been there yet either. We ate at a McCafe which was very yummy and nice for us because it has been A LONG TIME since we had McDonald's....silly, huh??

Driving Around

It was rainy again today, so since we couldn't go anywhere on foot we took a drive through Polcenigo, Budoia and around Aviano. We showed them the Gorgazzo Springs and had lunch at the Pizzeria Trattoria in Aviano. We also saw this interesting cave-looking thing in the parking lot.

Venice Day 2

We took the train back to Venice yesterday to catch San Marco square during the day and we got some awesome pictures; it was easier to notice more things in the sunshine!! Adam got a new hat which he looks very good in and I fed the pigeons which Andrew HATED - he was screaming the whole time they were on his head. Riley, on the other hand had one perch right in front of his face and didn't seem to mind at all, BOYS!!! We even got to go up to the top of St Mark's Bacilica and what an awesome view that was. We ate at a great little restaurant named "Gino's Bar & Pizzeria" and for supper we tried some paninos at the train station before leaving which were also great!!

Florence

We drove to Florence yesterday; it ended up being a long day and we got lost a few times on the way there and the way back so we didn't get to see much while we were there, but we ate at a nice restaurant, then we went to a museum ("Museo dell' Opera di Santa Maria del Fiore") and on the way back to the car we stopped and got some gelato. A great day for what we did see, but Adam and I definitely want to go back sometime and see some more stuff!!

Venice

Yesterday we went to Venice; the entire town is built over the water. Every 50 feet there are staircases and once you get to the other end you come to the "Plaza di San Marco" (San Marco square) which was absolutely gorgeous, but was dark by the time we got there, so we need to go back this week to see it in daylight. Cathy bought me a new scarf and now all I need is some tall boots and I might start blending in with the Italians!!! Adam, the boys and I hadn't been there yet, so it was quite an experience!!

Pordenone/Sacile

On Saturday we took a walk around Pordenone (bottom slideshow) and then we took the train to Sacile (top slideshow) trying to find the Holiday Festival that was supposed to be there this weekend. We did not find the festival, but we had an awesome time walking around looking at the sights and showing them around Italy so far!!
